I was born and raised in Portland, Maine and grew up with the good fortune of learning the trade from a truly skilled craftsman. After high school I moved to Boulder, Colorado to go to college and spent a year living in Los Angeles. I relied on my skills as a carpenter to provide and income while in school and was able to learn from other craftsmen and be on some great projects to further develop my skills. After graduating from college in 2007 with a BA in religious studies and a minor in music I returned to Maine and began working full time with my father. I worked daily learning the trade and over time began to act as a project manager and lead carpenter on jobs. In 2015-2016 I took over all aspects of running the company and my Father stepped aside while providing support to do what he loved most, carpentry! He has been working for me as a lead carpenter and helping to train the next generation of builders. Since taking over I continued to expand and grow the company to meet demand and grow our client base. I have been able to hire and work with many skilled carpenters, tradesmen, architects, and designers. We have developed long term relationships with many great clients from a variety of backgrounds.
I have always loved designing and building. Carpentry is an authentic occupation where the result of your creativity is truly tangible. It is a space you can move through or a structure you can look up at, a new kitchen your life and family can center around, or a new porch to sit on and enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. As a builder I love the challenges inherent in every job. I enjoy the hard work and outdoors as much as the finesse and precision in the finishing details of fine woodworking. Building needs a big view. Seeing the placement of finishing details as were digging a hole for a foundation and pouring concrete gives every step along the way value and meaning.
As a small business owner my priority is offering the best service possible and the highest quality product I can. Employees are the heart of a company. I could not do what I do without them. Every job is a team effort. I appreciate the people I work with. I hire staff with two things in mind, talent and personality. I like to work with people I want to work with and trust completely to be hard working, respectful, and kind to clients and their property. I hire people who want to work learning and practicing the trade in an ever evolving field. We work with a mutual respect for each other and our clients regardless of race, gender, religious or political beliefs in a collaborative spirit to create a world we want to live and work in. I believe that it is as important that what we build is great as it is that you enjoy having us around because sometimes we are around for a while.
I am a husband and father of four. I have immense gratitude and love for my wife who has supported me in so many ways through the years both on the job and behind the scenes. I was lucky to marry an artist with beautiful sensibilities and aesthetics, infectious kindness, and intelligence in people and business. My children are always inspiring me to be better and to continue to improve to provide a good life for them as well as sharing the gifts of childhood and unconditional love. My family is my inspiration and my motivation and are the heart of my home.
